Getting to know - Sarah Sanders (CO-FOUNDER/ CPO)

by Dominic Widdop | August 18, 2021

TENSTAR Co-Founder and Chief People Officer Sarah Sanders gives us an insight into recruitment, working life, and advice for those pining for a place in the industry.

What most excites you about TENSTAR?

Seeing the brand build from nothing to such a striking concept that stands out in the industry, along with the build of such a unique identity!

How did you enter the recruitment industry?

Absolute fluke! Starting my career as a weekend call centre trainer whilst studying teaching at university I very quickly recognised my passion for work. University wasn’t my strong point, unfortunately back then there was no option to combine the two. After a couple of years of selling cars and attempting to train as a mortgage adviser (neither went to plan!) I fell into educational recruitment, which was followed by my more long-term career in recruitment.

If you could do any job for the rest of your life, what would it be?

After starting my own business in 2019 -  although it has been a turbulent ride so far. . . We have overcome so many challenges, I don’t think I could ever return to being employed. I enjoy variety and like to be in control of my future.

Seeing something grow from nothing makes me so proud and having the autonomy to affect its destiny is so rewarding.

What is your highlight of 2021 so far?

Seeing our employees grow from strength to strength, face challenges head on and overcome obstacles.

Where do you see TENSTAR by 2023?

As a tier 1 esports performing club.

What are some hobbies you enjoy?

Bodypump, walking and gym.

What is your proudest achievement?

One 100% bringing my son into the world and watching him grow into an amazing person at 16.

Pineapple on pizza?

No!!!

What do you look for in an employee?

Passion, drive, and resilience.

What advice would you give to someone hoping to enter a competitive job market? (esports)

Never give up, know your end goal. It doesn’t have to be a particular job role, don’t place too much pressure on yourself to choose that job title early in your career, there is every chance that pressure will cloud your judgement. Just have in mind what you want to achieve and push yourself to get there, be resilient (or stubborn) push your boundaries, but overall don’t be too hard on yourself, we all make and learn from our mistakes.
